Olympic Weight Lifting Classes

Program Overview

The sport of Olympic Weightlifting (or “Oly”) consists of two lifts: the snatch and the clean & jerk. In the snatch, the weightlifter lifts the barbell from the floor to overhead in a single movement. In the clean & jerk, the weightlifter lifts the barbell first from the floor to the shoulders (the clean) and then from the shoulders to overhead (the jerk).

Why We Offer Classes Exclusive to Olympic Lifting Movements

Safety is our number one priority at CrossFit Bethany. Accordingly, Oly movements are taught over and over until we feel that you have the technique down enough to do them with weight. Every CrossFit class offers a portion of time dedicated to lifting technique. But in order to fully grasp these very technical movements, we recommend attending Oly classes. Oly classes focus solely on Olympic movements so that you can begin to understand the science behind the lifts and start building your confidence and skill level.

Olympic movements are used in CrossFit workouts but are only allowed at CrossFit Bethany if you are able to demonstrate control and comfort in the movement. Practice and great coaching are key. Attend Oly class on a regular basis – you’ll be amazed at how quickly your form will improve and with time, how much weight you’ll be able to lift.

About Olympic Weightlifting Coach, Eric

Since 2009, Coach Eric has exclusively coached athletes in the sport of Olympic Weightlifting. His passion for the sport of Oly has personally earned him the current title of CT State Olympic Lifting Champ in the 105kg class. He is also the Connecticut State Record Holder in the 105kg class for the snatch, clean & jerk and total weight lifted. At CFB, he has coached many of our athletes toward achieving medals at lifting meets throughout New England. Whether you’re wanting to work on a specific lift that you struggle with during CrossFit class or you have a weightlifting goal in mind, make sure to take advantage of this incredible resource. Eric truly loves to see new faces in his class. And since his class is on Sunday morning, he likes to keep things fairly relaxed…have you ever lifted to jazz music?
